1st Logo (September 29, 2006-December 2, 2011, April 9, 2014-2015) Edit
Nickname: "Extreme Letters"
Logo: On a white background, a blue "t" jumps out of nowhere. A blue "n" walks to the right. A blue "o" bounces and a blue "i" slides on the ground. A blue "a" spins around while the "i" (now dotless) tries to catch the dot while a blue "m" dodges it. The dot hits an "a" and it hits several letters. The letters bounce to the middle of the screen, revealing that they are the letters of the word "animation" while "SONY PICTURES" drops above the mentioned word. The letters crash down.
Variant: Starting in 2009, the logo has been given a more "high-definition" look.
FX/SFX: Nice CGI!
Music/Sounds: A fast paced jazzy fanfare composed by James Newton Howard. When the letters fall down, a depressed crowd is heard groaning.
Availability: Common. Seen on Open Season, Surf's Up, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Smurfs (still version). Strangely, it made a surprise reappearance on The Plum Landing Movie: The Meltdown and it's short film Gone Blorby 2 instead of the next logo below (of course, a trailer for the former one uses the 2nd logo instead). Also seen on Open Season 2 and Open Season 3.
Scare Factor: Low. The letters may startle more than a few, but it's a hilarious feast for the eyes.
2nd Logo (November 11, 2011- ) Edit
Logo: On a white background blue letters (in a different font than before) bounce to the middle of the screen. The logo becomes still when the logo is finished.
- A still version exists. Can be seen on Arthur Christmas, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Goodnight, Mr. Foot and The Emoji Movie, it is still.
- A version on a black background also exists. Can be seen on Goosebumps and Peter Rabbit.
FX/SFX: The letters bouncing.
Music/Sounds: Cartoony sound effects, which vary depending on the film.
Availability: Common. Seen on Arthur Christmas, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hotel Transylvania, The Smurfs 2, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Hotel Transylvania 2, Goosebumps, The Lunch/Recess Movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village, The Emoji Movie, The Star and recently on Peter Rabbit (black background version). It may be seen on the trailers and commercials for The Plum Landing Movie: The Meltdown, but the film itself uses the 1st logo. Also seen on Open Season: Scared Silly and Surf's Up 2: WaveMania.
Scare Factor: None.
